- Materials are the whole game: platinum silicone, borosilicate glass, stainless steel, and sealed ABS are body-safe and non-porous. Walk away from jelly, rubber, and anything with a chemical smell.
- Match the lubricant to the toy: water-based is safe with everything; silicone lubricant can damage silicone toys.
- Waterproof ratings (IPX6, IPX7) mean bath use and far easier cleaning — an easier life generally.
- Rechargeable beats battery for power and cost over time. Check the charge time, and whether it can be used while charging if that matters to you.
- Noise is a real specification. If discretion matters, look for pieces reviewed as quiet — and test on arrival, not in the moment.
- Buy makers who warranty their motors. A one or two year warranty is the mark of a serious toy.
